Trail
Riding Log: Don't forget to keep track of the hours you ride throughout 2010 by jotting them down on a calendar. By submitting them at the December meeting you will qualify for the trail riding award if you log 100+ hours of pleasure riding.
Year End
Awards:
Don't forget that members must accumulate 10 hours of volunteer time in order to qualify for yearend awards, and five of those hours can be garnered by attending club meetings. We need bodies to help out at events to keep this club going and growing!
Club Rules
and Insurance
require that all junior members must wear a helmet at all times while mounted on their horse at club functions. All members attending a show are required to wear a number at all times while mounted. Please familiarize yourself with club rules by obtaining them at a meeting, or the website. Fun Day Rules are posted at every Fun Day.
Newsletters will be published monthly, mailed or emailed to members and are accessible on the website.
Club Meeting
News -
This section of the newsletter will be to inform you of what took place during the meetings, both executive and general.
Hot
dog sale fundraiser The hot dog sale brought in approximately $120.00 after expenses. A big thank you to Paul at Askews for donating the hot dogs and buns for the sale. Also another big thank you to Pam, Melanie, Adam, Carolyn and Ursula for volunteering their time to organize and work at this fund raiser. Plans for a hot dog sale next year was discussed and determined that it should possibly happen earlier in the year when it is cooler, as it was reported the customer turnout was lower than normal, possibly due to the extreme heat. Melanie LeMaire also suggested possibly setting up a lemonade stand as a fund raiser, this could coincide with the hot dog sale.
Summer
Riding It was reported that there has been quite a low turnout for this years summer riding program, again possibly due to the extreme heat. The final session was quite a bit cooler and more riders participated.
Rider
Development Program
No follow up report at this time was available.
July Fun Day It was a scorcher again! Approximately 20 riders braved the heat and I believe it was reported we had one rider who did a bit of a rodeo demonstration.
August Fun Day- It was another hot one, we must be setting a record this year for having our Fun Days on the hottest days of the month! Approximately 13 riders came out to compete, practice or school their young horses. It was nice and shady in the Agriplex and not too hot in there with the doors open. Thanks to Rebecca for being the organizer and putting in a new game, the egg stomp, as one of the gymkhana events. Did any of them fry in the sand?
50/50
Draws Pam has received the paperwork on this and will find out whether the club can apply. A discussion followed on what event the club could sell these at, but it was determined that we should find out whether the club qualifies first.
Stop
Watch
Rebecca reported that she purchased another stopwatch for the club. Carolyn has stopwatches and radios stored at her place.
Director Resignation Sandy Murdoch submitted a letter of resignation due to health reasons. We wish Sandy all the best and hope to see her at some of the AERC events.
Trail Gate The new gate has been put to use at our past couple of Fun Days. It was discussed that it was difficult to pound spikes into the ground to secure the gate so alternative weights such as sandbags could be used.
Trail Equipment The trail equipment will be removed and stored at Brenda's place after the August Fun Day and replaced back in the storage area once the IPE is finished.
Insurance No report.
HCBC Grant The club received $1000 from HCBC for volunteering at other events. Thanks to members who helped out at the Quarter Horse Show and the Heritage Qualifier, enabling us to receive these funds. This is a great fundraiser for the club, and we hope that more members will be able to help out at other horse functions in the future.
Meeting Attendance: Another low turnout. A discussion followed as to whether we needed to have meetings once a month or to possibly have a directors meeting immediately before a general meeting in some months. As it stands, the club cannot vote on any items brought to the meeting, as we currently do not have a quorum. If members are not interested in attending the meetings, or volunteering their time for events, or stepping up to help out at fundraisers, then the club will have to seriously look into whether it will continue next year. The same members cannot keep doing all the work year after year!
Clinics Lorraine Pilon is offering clinics at her farm in Winfield with discounted rates for AERC members. To find out more information on what clinics Lorraine has scheduled please contact her at 250-766-7180.
URGENT! We are desperately in need of volunteers for the September 26 Fun Day! You do not need to be a member of the club in order to help out, so volunteer your friends, mom and dad or any other relatives you can think of. Rebecca Hilbrander 546-0052 and Gabriella Sladkova 546-9941 have kindly offered to organize this event due to the recent resignation of Director Sandy Murdoch. Please give them a call ASAP if you can help, even if you can only attend part of the day it will help. They need these positions filled: Gate person(s), announcer, entry clerk, game timers, ring crew. For this event please bring a lunch, there will be cold drinks available.
This is possibly your last chance to get your volunteer hours in for the end of the year Awards.
THIS AUGUST MEETING WILL BE HELD AT DAIRY QUEEN AS THE IPE IS ON AND WE WILL NEVER GET PARKING DOWNTOWN. HOORAY ICE CREAM!
